School District Tax Levy Goes Down
In these tough economic times Cudahy residents will get some good financial news when they get their property tax bills in the mail.
The Cudahy School District’s tax levy and tax rate are going down by about 3.5% in 2009-2010, or $0.27/$1,000. The levy is $11,219,367, down $408,300 from last year.
“The administration and the Board of Education have worked extremely hard to keep our budget at or near last year’s budget total,” said Superintendent Jim Heiden. “We have made necessary changes without sacrificing programs or services for students.”
Director of Business Services Jim Papala says the decrease in the tax levy and tax rate is due primarily to an increase in state aid, as well as a minimal change in the district’s overall budget from last year.
School Board President Gail Schacht also points to the 0% financing that the Cudahy School District received for its recent referendum projects.
“Our taxpayers should be very pleased with the results of the work of the school board, along with Superintendent Heiden and Business Manager Papala,” said Schacht. “We’ve remained very aware of the economic environment of our taxpayers when making decisions.”
School district tax rates are based on the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue's Equalized Property Values.
