Church Asks Life-Changing Question
What if you were told that you had just one month to live?
The entertainment industry has been addressing that topic recently, including the 2007 movie ‘The Bucket List.’ This story follows the lives of two terminal cancer patients who travel around the world, checking things off of their list of things to do before they ‘kick the bucket.’ In the music field, Tim McGraw’s hit, “Live Like You Were Dying” broaches the subject with a country feel. Now, a local church tackles the question in their own way.
Consider how your perspective would change if you found out you had just 30 days left. What things related to your schedule, your priorities or even your attitude would you immediately adjust to get the most ‘living’ out of every moment? You’d probably spend a lot of the time you have left with those you love the most. There would be no more time for the social games we play, so you’d say what’s really on your mind and love fully and deeply. You’d probably work to resolve any lingering regrets from your past, so you could really ‘rest in peace.’
The reality is that most of us will live past the next 30 days. However, our time on this earth is limited. We get one life to live and have only one opportunity to make the most of it. The One Month Challenge is a combination ‘sermon series/small group study’ that helps work through the questions that come when we consider our life and how we really want to live it. The goal of One Month to Live is to be able to embrace the time we have on this earth, however long that may be, and at the end of 30 days, be able to live a ‘No Regrets’ lifestyle every day. Why postpone your dreams and goals, living with a "someday" mentality, when you can live that "someday" today.
Everyone is invited to take part in this One Month to Live Challenge in a few different ways. First, read the book "One Month to Live" by Kerry and Chris Shook. This book contains 30 daily readings, a few pages each day to guide you through the One Month to Live Challenge. The second opportunity is to join the congregation of Changing Lives on Sunday mornings at 10:15 AM for a series of six messages on this theme. The third way to be involved is to participate in a ’30-Day Challenge LIFE Group’ a small discussion group that will be working through the One Month to Live study guides. These groups will meet for 6 weeks beginning the week of April 26. More information and registration for groups and times can be found on the church website at www.claog.org or by calling the church office in Cudahy at 414-483-1313.
