A 49-year-old Cudahy woman was arrested on charges of drunken driving – a sixth offense – after another driver reported her driving erratically.
She was first spotted while southbound on S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in St. Francis about 1 a.m. Saturday, then eastbound on E. Layton Ave. and south on S. Packard Ave. The other driver, also from Cudahy, called 911 after seeing the vehicle swerving, both in the lane and toward oncoming traffic, according to Cudahy Police Sgt. Randy Scheel.
Cudahy police saw the vehicle in the 5900 block of S. Packard Ave., and followed the driver into a trailer court there.
The woman told police that she had only one beer. Police reported that her speech was slurred and that she had trouble keeping her balance. She became agitated and began screaming, then tried to enter her residence and refused to cooperate with sobriety tests, police said. Officers then arrested her and took her to the hospital for a blood sample. Results of the blood test are pending.
Records indicate that the woman was last convicted for drunken driving in Milwaukee County in April 2004. She was earlier convicted for incidents in Marinette County in 2000; Clark County in 1996 and 1995; and Waukesha County in 1993. Her driver's license was re-instated last year, Scheel said.
Police appreciated the call from the citizen, he said.
"It was nice work," Scheel said. "More eyes out on the road."
