Bzdawka claims Cudahy Junior Miss title

Schram named first alternate in contest

March 3, 2009

Rachel Bzdawka is the 2010 Cudahy Junior Miss.

The Cudahy High School junior, who earned a $300 college scholarship, plans to attend Alverno College and become an art therapist. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Jackie Bzdawka.

"I wanted to participate in the 2010 Cudahy Junior Miss competition because it was a great opportunity for me to be able to receive a scholarship for the future," she said.

The most challenging part of the event was the on-stage question during the poise portion of the competition, Rachel said.

"It really tests your ability to think on your feet, and you're put under a considerable amount of pressure," she said. "It was a little nerve-racking knowing that everyone in the audience was watching me, waiting for an insightful answer."

During the talent portion of the competition, Rachel performed a dance.

Participating in the event has taught Rachel to be confident, she said.

"You should never let yourself get discouraged, and you should never tell yourself that you can't do something," she said.

Rachel Schram was chosen first alternate. The daughter of Curt and Ellen Schram hopes to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Others competing for 2010 Cudahy Junior Miss on Feb. 28 were Angela Kacner, Christie Slusar, Rebecca Goss and Melissa Nadeau.
