June 06, 2009 1:50 p.m. | A 52-year-old Cudahy man surrendered Saturday morning after a six-hour standoff that forced the evacuation of an apartment building in that Milwaukee County suburb.
Cudahy Police were called to the complex in the 2700 block of E. Adams Court on a report of a fight and were told that the man fired shots into the car of a 46-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son, then fled into one of the apartment buildings. Police tried unsuccessfully to talk the man out before its tactical unit moved in.
The man's building was evacuated; residents in the remaining nine buildings were told to either leave or stay in their apartments. And the man surrendered without incident around 10 a.m.

Aug. 30, 2010 10:48 a.m. | A former Cudahy High School student pleaded guilty Monday to giving a prescription medicine to a fellow student who suffered an overdose reaction in school.
David Opalinski, 18, of St. Francis will be sentenced Oct. 29 on a felony charge of delivery of a drug. It carries a maximum prison term of six years.
Opalinski gave Xanax, which is prescribed for anxiety disorders and panic attacks, to a 17-year-old student who later suffered a reaction and was briefly hospitalized.
The boy said Opalinski gave him the Xanax to cover a $5 debt for a previous drug transaction, according to a Cudahy police report.

Aug. 27, 2010 11:01 p.m. | Both Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West dropped their season openers Friday night at home.
The Trojans lost, 29-16, to Milwaukee Hamilton of the City Conference at West, while Tosa East got crushed by Cudahy, 34-7, at Hart Park.
Tosa West
Tosa West was trailing 15-0 when the Trojans scored twice on a 5-yard TD catch by Mickey Morgan from QB Colin Dettlaff and then the defense added two points on a safety by Troy Festge to go into half-time trailing only 15-9.
But the Wildcats scored twice for a 29-9 lead, before Tosa West closed out the scoring with a two-yard run by Josh Stoeckman.

Aug. 26, 2010 12:46 p.m. | Madison — A former municipal court judge who stopped processing parking tickets to protest city policy has been reprimanded by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
John Zodrow served as municipal court judge for the City of Cudahy from 1999 until April, when he lost re-election. He thought the court was understaffed for years, and he stopped handling parking tickets issued in the city last year to protest the staffing levels and other matters.
Zodrow had reached a deal with the Wisconsin Judicial Commission to jointly recommend that he be reprimanded by the Supreme Court. The court on Thursday agreed and reprimanded Zodrow.

Aug. 02, 2010 1:15 p.m. | Residents for Off-leash Milwaukee Parks (ROMP) and Friends of Sheridan Park will hold a "leash-cutting ceremony" Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. at the new dog exercise area at Warnimont Park in Cudahy.
The new dog park is located adjacent to the Kelly Senior Center at 6100 S Lake Dr. in Cudahy. The site is five acres, fenced-in and features a separate small dog area and several wooded trails. A permit is required for regular use of the DEA. Annual permits are $25 for Milwaukee County residents; to obtain a permit, the dog must have a current license from the municipality it resides in and be up-to-date on its rabies vaccination.
Dog owners should also check with their veterinarians to see what other vaccinations are recommended
This is Milwaukee County’s fifth off-leash dog park.

July 24, 2010 11:12 p.m. | Cudahy — Franklin's goal of another WIAA state summer baseball tournament appearance is still alive.
After coming from behind to upend second-seeded Cudahy, 7-4, at Sheridan Park Saturday evening, the third-seeded Sabers advanced to the sectional finals, where they will play South Milwaukee at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fourth-seeded South Milwaukee upset top-seeded Oak Creek, 5-4, at Franklin High School on Saturday to earn its way into the championship round.
If the Sabers (26-14) are victorious Sunday, it would be their second straight tournament berth, and their third in the last four years. The tournament begins Wednesday in Stevens Point.
Against Cudahy (25-16), Franklin fell behind 3-1 after the second inning, while Packers starting pitcher Joe Jagler was in complete control.

July 24, 2010 6:30 p.m. | The Franklin baseball team is one game win away from the state tournament after defeating Cudahy, 7-4, Saturday evening in a WIAA sectional semifinal in Cudahy.
The Sabers trailed 3-1 heading into the fifth inning and scored three times in that frame and again in the sixth.
The big play of the game was Jay Dirienzo's based-loaded double in the fifth, which cleared the bases and gave Franklin the lead for good.
In the sixth inning, junior left fielder Evan Walton had a double to deep center that drove in two runs. Trevor Theissen also had an RBI single in that frame.

July 23, 2010 10:09 a.m. | Today's sectional baseball games at South Milwaukee between Oak Creek/South Milwaukee and Franklin/Cudahy have been postponed because of poor field conditions due to last night's storms.
South Milwaukee coach John Galewski said a decision has not yet been made on when and where the games will be played.

July 19, 2010 2:30 p.m. | A three-judge panel on Monday recommended that the Wisconsin Supreme Court reprimand former Cudahy municipal judge John Zodrow for allowing thousands of cases to become backlogged.
The recommendation "likely would be more severe" had Zodrow not been defeated in his bid for re-election, the panel said.
Last month, Zodrow and the state Judicial Commission, which filed a complaint against Zodrow, agreed that a reprimand should be issued.
The commission's complaint, issued in November, estimated that Zodrow had 3,500 cases awaiting decision. He told the commission at the time that he thought 1,000 to 1,500 cases were pending.
Zodrow, who held the part-time position from 1999 until he was defeated by attorney John Dobogai in April, had for years complained that he had less clerical help than other municipal courts. He also vowed to let some cases sit idle "until hell freezes over" after the Cudahy Police Department cut off the court's access to the police computer system.
