J.E. Jones recently held a Heavenly Hats fundraiser. For this fundraiser, each student who donated a dollar could wear a hat to school. The dollar goes to the Heavenly Hats Foundation. Heavenly Hats is a foundation that provides brand new hats to people who lose their hair due to treatment of cancer.

J.E. Jones just ended the Project Concern Food Drive, which ran from November 10 to November 21. The school raised 426 items of non-perishable food that will go to the local food pantry.

In December, J.E. Jones School plans to hold a special fundraiser and community social event to raise funds for guided reading books and a SMART Board. Guided reading books enhance the frequency students read at appropriate reading levels. The SMART Board is an interactive technology tool that combines a whiteboard with a computer.
At this special event, J.E. Jones will have a silent auction of themed baskets assembled by individual classrooms. If you want to donate items for this special event or if you know someone who would like to donate items, please contact J.E. Jones at 294-7150. Also, if you want to help with the fundraiser event, please let us know as well.

General Mitchell, J.E. Jones, Lincoln, Math Counts, Park View
On April 28, Lincoln school hosted the Math Counts competition. Math Counts is a district wide math contest for 5th and 6th graders.
For each school, students are given a math test. The top six students from each grade level then compete at the school level, with the competition held in front of their peers. The winners then proceed to the district level.
Questions for this competition are posted on an overhead and contestants are given about 1.5 minutes to answer. The student with the most correct answers wins the competition. Also, the top four students from each school compete in a written math team competition. The teams work together to solve the problems and turn in one sheet of answers. The team with the highest score wins.

On Friday, April 25, JE Jones celebrated Hobby Day. For this event, staff members shared hobbies, such as pom pons, checkers, chess, water skiing, wrestling, karate, gardening, and bowling.
Students picked the activities they were most interested in and then they spent time with the teacher learning about the activities. During the break session, students got to relax, talk, and eat popcorn. This event was a lot of fun and a great success!

On April 24, Mike McGowan - an outstanding presenter with an extensive background in education and youth service spoke to the students at JE Jones.
In Novemember, Mike McGowan spoke about The Keys to Your Success. This time, he talked to the students about friendship and life. McGowan is known nationwide for his informative, humorous presentations and gives students strategies to help them navigate their developmental years. This presentation was a great success with both the students and staff at JE Jones.

As part of their Earth day contribution, JE Jones School is participating in the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program. For two weeks, the school is collecting nicely used athletic shoes. The shoes are then donated to Nike. Nike then recycles/grinds up the shoes to make playground and track surfaces for communities.

On March 12, J.E. Jones School held a martial arts assembly. Mr. Sorce of Sorce Martial Arts demonstrated various Taikwondo techniques and also spoke to students about bullying, friendship, and respect. The students did a fantastic job and enjoyed everything they learned!
