Over 200 Students Reach Accelerated Reader Goals at Cudahy Middle School
At the Cudahy Middle School, over 200 students achieved their Accelerated Reader goal for the 2nd quarter! All 233 students were rewarded with a pancake breakfast made by their teachers.
Jazz Ensemble Earns 5th Place at UW-L Festival
Congratulations to the Jazz Ensemble on their 5th place honors at the U-W LaCrosse Jazz Festival.
Dinosaur Open House
At Lincoln school, the 4-year old kindergarten classes held a Dinosaur Open House! At the open house, the students showed their families their dinosaur classroom and all their dinosaur projects! The families also read dinosaur books, played with dinosaur puppets, and worked on dinosaur art. The open house was a great success and a lot of fun!
January Renaissance Students of the Month
Every month, the Renaissance Program at the Cudahy High School recognizes one student from each grade as the student of the month. The January Renaissance Students of the Month winners are:

Cudahy High School Varsity Pom Pon Team Competition
The Cudahy High School Varsity Pom Pon Team competed at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches 2009 Wisconsin Southern Regional Cheer and Dance Championships at Watertown High School on Saturday, January 31, 2009. All teams must qualify at the Eastern, Western or Southern Regional to compete at the WACPC State High School Dance Championships. The team placed 5th in Division 2 Pom, allowing them to advance to the State Dance Championships on February 7, 2009 at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse.
This is the third year in a row the team has qualified.

Great Finance Class News at Cudahy High School
The organizers of the National Financial Literacy Challenge recently informed staff members at Cudahy High School that two thirds of the students in the personal finance course taught by business teacher Kevin Jones who participated in the fall National Financial Literacy Challenge scored in the top 25% nationwide. Fifteen of the students participated in the challenge and ten of them ranked in the top 25% of the more than 75,000 high school students nationwide who participated in the Challenge. In fact, the class’s average score was in the top 25% nationwide.
Congratulations to the following ten students who will be receiving certificates of recognition from the US Treasury Department for their performance on the National Financial Literacy Challenge: Benjamin Berg, Elizabeth Comp, John Dishinger, Rebecca Heian, Danny Richter, Wilson Rodriguez, Joey Rogers, Marina Salazar, Samuel Schmidt, Sylvar Stevens.
We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments.
Lunch and Music at Kosciuszko School
The Kosciuszko school band plays for the students and staff during a wonderful lunchtime performance.
Kosciuszko Watches History Unfold!
On Inauguration Day, students at Kosciuszko Elementary School ate their lunches 40 minutes later than usual, so everyone had a chance to see President Obama sworn into the Oval Office. Students and staff also wore red, white, or blue in recognition of the historic day.
Cudahy High School Students Participate in Marquette University Business Competition
On Saturday, January 24, four Cudahy High School juniors, Sam Bolender, Joe Jagler, Ryan Meyer, and Amy Weber, participated in Marquette University’s Business Case Competition. The competition, sponsored by the MU College of Business, pitted 40 high schools throughout against each other. Each team was given a business scenario and was asked to come up with a corresponding business plan. The participants then presented their plan to a panel of MU faculty members and business professionals.
The Cudahy High School students prepared for the competition by meeting several times at 7 a.m. with Business Education Department chairperson and the students’ business management instructor. “I was impressed with the students’ willingness to meet in the morning and prepare for the simulation,” Jones said. “This is the first year Cudahy High School entered a team in the competition, so our students were in unchartered waters. Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity and experience.”
Cudahy Varsity Cheerleaders Regional Champions
The Cudahy Varsity Cheerleaders competed at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches Southern Regionals at Watertown High School on Saturday January 31st, 2009. The cheerleaders made history by taking 1st place in Division 2 Small Varsity for the first time. The Varsity Cheerleaders earned a bid to the State Championships at the Brown County Arena in Green Bay on Saturday, February 14th 2009.

Kosciuszko Students Learn about the Blind
At Kosciuszko school, the fifth graders have been learning about the lives of people who are blind. The students started by learning the selection Mom's Best Friend by Sally Hobart Alexander. The students then handled and looked through the Braille versions of Matilda and Charlotte’s Web. The kids then visited BrailleBug.org. However, the study of people with visual impairments was not complete.
Two people helped the students gain more insights into the daily lives of people who are blind.
Elizabeth Abelson, daughter of Mrs. Abelson, is a teacher who works with students who have visual difficulties. In addition to sending a Braille deck of cards and the two Braille books, she also sent the students a copy of their own name in Braille. Not only could they see their name, but they felt the raised dots and examined the way the dots are organized to make letters.
At a recent visit, Charlotte Gotz, the sub caller for our school district, talked to the fifth graders about her life being blind. She spoke of raising her children, her training at The Seeing Eye, a school that partners and trains people and their dog guides, and her challenges and successes in passing The Casey Law.
“I am amazed how blind people can memorize and read Braille,” said Emily, a fifth grade Kozy student.
Marquette Band Festival
On Monday, February 9, Cudahy High School participated in the Marquette Band Festival. This event provided an opportunity for the concert band to perform in front of clinicians and get feedback about their performance.
At this time of the year, the Cudahy band focuses on band festivals and solo and ensemble festivals. These activities give students a chance to prepare music and get wonderful feedback and coaching from music professionals outside of the regular school setting.
Lincoln School Receives Target Grant
Donna Liermann, a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln school, was recently notified that she received an $800 grant from Target for a field trip to Green Meadows Farm in Waterford, Wisconsin.
Mrs. Liermann plans to use the Target Field Trip Grant to take 53 kindergartners to the farm in June.
Since 2006, the Target Field Trip program has been awarding the grants to help offset budget shortages for schools and to help educators use the learning gained from field trips to enhance student classroom studies.
Mrs. Liermann was among 5,000 recipients this year to receive a total of $4 million dollars. Congratulations Lincoln school!
Carly Ademi Recognized for Volunteer Service
Carly Ademi, of Cudahy, WI has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Parent/Teacher conferences for the Cudahy High School are being held on March 4.
Open Houses at Cudahy Middle School, General Mitchell and Cudahy High School
A series of Open Houses and Informational Forums will be held over the next eight weeks to highlight the projects in the upcoming April referendum.
Open Houses will be held at Cudahy Middle School, General Mitchell Elementary School and Cudahy High School. While projects are slated at all seven district locations, the majority of projects affect General Mitchell Elementary School, Cudahy Middle School and Cudahy High School. The public is invited to tour the facilities and learn more about the long range capital needs that will be addressed by the referendum.

Open Houses for Cudahy High School
Cudahy Varsity Cheerleaders place 3rd at State
On Saturday, Feb. 14 the Cudahy Varsity Cheerleaders competed at the WACPC State Cheerleading Championships in Green Bay. The cheerleaders placed 3rd in Division 2 Small Varsity, missing 2nd place by 1.5 points. Senior Chelo Rivera was selected for the All State Honorable Menetion Team and Junior Becky Goss was selected for the All State Team. Both Chelo and Becky competed against 61 other cheerleaders to earn their spots on the All State Teams.Congratulations Ladies! Our community, school, families and coaches are so very proud of you.
Masterworks Concert at the Cudahy High School
Come to the Masterworks Concert at the Cudahy High School.
The featured performance will be when all Choirs combine to perform six excerpts from Felix Mendelssohn's Oratorio, "Elijah". This is considered a "masterwork" and has been performed by choirs around the world from high school level through professional groups for almost two hundred years. There will also be performances from each individual choir, reflective of the music they have been studying. Performances will include music from different time periods and genres, which will include Renaissance, 20th century, and popular music.
J.E. Jones Orchestra Visits Kelly Senior Center
On January 20th, the Advanced Orchestra members at J.E. Jones took a field trip to perform for the senior citizens of at the Kelly Senior Center in Cudahy, WI. This was an excellent opportunity to play in the community, outside of the traditional concerts. The center was filled with attentive seniors and the concert went very well. In addition, the children helped each other with every aspect of the trip. This was a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
