Volcanoes at General Mitchell
Dogzilla is a book by Dav Pilkey about a monstrous dog who rises from a volcano to terrorize a city of mice.
The third-grade classes at General Mitchell School used this book as a starting point to create their own volcano monsters! For this project, students were asked to create their own creatures (for example, Pigzilla or Snakezilla) and then write a story about them. The stories included the monster, a volcano, a problem to solve, and extra characters.
After the stories were written, the children created real model volcanoes. Each model was extremely creative and displayed the student's volcano, the characters, and the surrounding community from their story. Many of the students even had their volcano erupt!
This project was a great success!
