What an amazing week this has been! The demonstrations in Madison to protest Governor Scott Walker's budget proposals have surprised everyone. What a historic time! Although I have never been a member of a labor union I do support the right of employees to negotiate and I support them on a moral basis.
The word on the street is that the route for the 2011 UPAF Miller Lite Ride for the Arts may travel over the Hoan Bridge. The organizers for the ride have wanted to do this for several years but the state would not allow it. Rumor has it that Scott Walker is open to the idea and may approve it for 2011. This would be an exciting addition to the ride!
Garlic Mustard Pickers will be performing Monday, Dec. 20th at Fixx Coffee House. In case you haven't been to Fixx it is at 3558 E. Sivyer Ave (on Packard Ave half a block north of Howard Ave). Music starts at 7:30 pm.
I was excited to learn that Summerfest will be hosting a half-marathon and 10k this summer that will include a trip across the Hoan Bridge. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/lifestyle/111452614.html
Thursday, Oct. 21st was my first indoor run at the Pettit National Ice Center for the winter season. (Yes, I know it's not winter yet .) This is a 443 meter track that surrounds the two hockey rinks and the speed-skating rink. This is a great way to keep running during our long winter if you don't like running outside in cold weather and you get tired of always being on the treadmill. The Pettit is a great resource that many people in the metro area are not aware of. For more info on the Pettit go to: http://www.thepettit.com/ .
