Why Not
I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.
Supervisor Jursik and the Parks
I had an enjoyable meeting with Supervisor Jursik in regards to concerns about the parks in Cudahy. I have shared this information with Mayor Day.
Here are her responses to some of my questions.
She is open to holding the Farmers Market in Sheridan Park and would be willing to work with the organizers of the Farmers Market.
She has spoken to a couple of people in regards to selling coffee in the parks. Currently there is interest in a Kiosk to sell coffee once the Dog Park opens.
She says that the Sheridan Park pool is scheduled to open, but the county workers who man the pool are currently laid off.
She clarified the award that the County Parks has won. The Milwaukee County Parks Department has been named the winner of the National Recreation and Park Association's Gold Medal Award in the Park and Recreation Management Program.
They will be working on removing invasive growth on Saturday May 22.
The restrooms will remain an issue due to lack of staffing. When no attendant is on duty, there is the issue of vandalism. If a group pulls a permit, then the restrooms will be open because that group takes some responsibility for their upkeep.
Ice skating did happen on the lagoon in Sheridan Park this winter. But due to budget constraints, there will probably not be an ice rink put up.
She understands that more Friends of the Parks will be needed in the future to help maintain the parks.
This Saturday, May 1 at 10:00 is the Sheridan Parks Friends Annual Meeting. A potluck brunch and other refreshments will be provided. This is an opportunity to hear about things planned for Sheridan Park this year. She promises to keep the program short to allow more time for socializing and getting to know more about Friends. She hopes to see some new faces.
