Inside a global cybercrime ring
With the shutdown of Innovative Marketing Ukraine, we finally get to see how big virus writing and distribution is. Corporate offices, HR departments, call center and an affiliate program aside, hacking is bigger than you may realize.
The average "affiliate" of IMU could make up to $5/year if they were good at getting the malware out. And they didn’t just get paid for getting your computer infected, they got bonuses for sales and performance too.
The biggest challenge in getting these guys shut down is most of them are based in countries that either allow hacking or the officials turn the other way. Cooperation is improving to shut them down, but not nearly as fast as the developers are.
