You Can't Bargain Away Rights to Achieve Choice

A school closes, keeps taxpayer dollars and leaves students and families to look for alternative education choices. The message of the program changes from offering an alternative to a better education to a program that is allowing choice, because there has been no evidence that the schools achieve higher test scores. The schools do not want to be compared to public schools using the same standards, in fact there are some that don’t feel they need to be held accountable at all. Yet there are those that think that this is the greatest thing since sliced bread and think the voucher program should be expanded.

Here We Go Again

Here we go again.  A new legislative session, a new push to pass the much discussed and extremely flawed Special Needs Voucher.  Why do they continue to push this piece of legislation? They make no changes to it. Many Wisconsin families do not support it.  I would think that there have got to be more pressing priorities in the State of Wisconsin then the Special Needs Voucher.

We Can't Afford a Raise to Para Transit Rates

As the Milwaukee County Board finishes up their work on the 2015 Budget, I want to first acknowldege and appreciate the forward thinking when it comes to the GO (Growing Opportunities) Pass. This GO Pass would allow seniors and individuals with disabilities to ride the regular County Bus system for free.  But unfortunately, not everybody is able to ride the regular bus system, this is why there is a para transit system.
