When I went to St Francis days, I said a few words to Tony who is running against McCue. I hope he gives him one hell of a fight.
As far as I see it, people consider him a hero after the Patrick Cudahy fire.
To me the fire chief should get the credit he saved lives of our firemen. I told Tony I would help him in anyway. He did not seem too excited on that. I will campaign I will remind people on how McCue tried to ruin and did ruin our city. Hope you are having a good weekend."
I think Mr. Day will do well against Mayor McCue and now with the addition of Mr. Fech we will have a primary election and let’s hope they knock Mayor McCue out in the primary. Optimism and buzz surround

Yes, I heard the same thing. While I think it is important for the Mayor to get an assessment of the situation, I do think it was handled incorrectly.

Randy I was very unhappy to hear that
When Mayor McCue told everyone that Patrick Cudahy is going to rebuild with state of the art machines and that Patrick Cudahy could bring in more jobs because of the state of the art machinery shows that Mayor McCue has no clue. State of the art machinery would make it so LESS workers are needed not more! What is he just dumb or ignorant?
I also didn’t like the fact that during the crisis, Mayor McCue didn’t have a clue. He just seemed like he was playing to the cameras. I understand he evacuated just about the whole town as a safety precaution, but when he indicated that it might be the next day before we could go back home, I just about threw my soda can at the TV. I knew if he kept the people from their homes overnight that it would be political suicide. I told my wife that we would be going home. Sure enough,
As far as getting insurance money it would have been better that the individuals would not have been caught. You cannot squeeze blood out of a turnip. I do hope that they put in a movie or book clause that any proceeds from selling the rights or publication the money would go back to Patrick Cudahy and the City!
Yes, the comment about “state of the art” equipment struck me that the Mayor didn’t think that part through.
There is a difference between a politician who plays to the microphones and cameras and one who is just trying to inform the public! It was McCue-esque!

Thanks. I am not a reporter, but a pundit putting my comments and thoughts out there. Sometimes information is just that information. I think the public should know what is going on and an informed citizen is what all elected officials should strive to do.
I believe that being informed on what's going on in the city and the neighborhood keeps a lot of misinformation and rumors at bay.
The Mayoral and Alderperson elections are covered by the “Nonpartisan Offices” and it was included there.
As far a moderating a debate, I would love and be honored to do that, but most of the time it goes to independent people. I have a very open opinion on topics and people. If the candidates (mostly Mayor McCue) don’t mind my biases, I would be honored to do so!

Old buildings, stores falling apart, nothing new and now we can't even get a theater...so sad.

If you focus too much on what you left behind, you can never look forward. Is their a future in the past? You cannot move forward into the past!

I was sad to hear the Movie Theater is a “NO” go, but better to find out now than have another Iceport in smaller scale. I did hear that another group is looking at putting in a Movie Theater at that site. We will see!

The Mayor's letter on the first two pages has multiple errors.
Once I am done going through the entire newsletter, I plan on sending all the errors to the Mayor's office asking how this happened. I will also ask why the newsletter has to be in color when black and white is much cheaper.

Good observation on the rest, I hope you email me the letter you send the Mayor, I will post it up for all to see! In a time when the city personnel needs to be finding dollars and cents to save, there is so much more that can be done to save money.
In government, there are old processes, inefficiencies, oversights, and even terrible waste. The mindset that they the need to spend every penny in a budget, even capriciously, so that an equal or greater amount will be allocated next year is just wrong. The philosophy is to spend all the money allocated in the budget or it will not be allocated again has to end!
Everybody knows that this is a difficult time, and we have to do our best now to help.

Those who want to do business in
According to the proposed ordinance, all applicants for a new or renewed professional or commercial license or permit to do business in the city of Milwaukee would be required to show proof of U.S. citizenship or documentation of their legal status and ability to work in this country.
The Common Council's licensing committee has scheduled a hearing on the measure for
The ordinance has been introduced to ensure compliance with the United States Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, which prohibits state and local governments from giving public benefits, including professional and commercial licenses and permits, to those who are not citizens or do not have legal status to work here, City Clerk Ron Leonhardt.
The new measure also would be in line with U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements, he said.
If the ordinance passes, the city's license division will reject any new or renewal applications if the required documentation is not provided, he said.
An appeal process also is outlined in the measure if an applicant is rejected.
"The ordinance is an attempt to comply with federal laws, and it's not the intention to target any ethnic group," Leonhardt said. A variety of community-based organizations and others, such as the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and the taxi cab companies, were advised of the proposed ordinance, he said.
"With such a bad economy, this is not a time to try to put any more obstacles in the way of people, particularly the undocumented," said Tony Baez, president and CEO of the Council for the Spanish Speaking. "It's punitive. And it's also not the time when the country as a whole is trying to engage in comprehensive immigration reform," he added.
The proposed ordinance was drafted, Leonhardt said, after City Attorney Grant Langley advised that the federal law applies to the issuance of licenses and permits.
In October 2007, Van Hollen advised state Department of Regulation and Licensing Secretary Celia Jackson that the federal measures for citizenship verification applied to that department because it's prohibited from issuing professional licenses or credentials to illegal immigrants.
In a lengthy letter, Van Hollen wrote that "&ensp.&ensp.&ensp.&enspalthough state law does not require DRL to verify the qualifications of an applicant for a professional license or credential, it does not prohibit DRL from verifying these qualifications."
"However, I recommend that DRL verify the immigration status of all applicants for state professional licenses and credentials to be certain that it is not issuing them in violation of federal law," he wrote.
