As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.
It was just announced on Friday to the employees of the Highway 100
The new Supercenter will open in early 2012. The current store will be left open with basic stock merchandise being transferred to the new store and old discontinued and clearance merchandise being sold at steep discounts until all is gone.
Once the store is emptied, the store will be taken down for additional parking.
Construction is to start sometime in January 2010.
It is just too bad

Then they say WalMart would close all the small businesses in Cudahy. That's happening and we don't have the WalMart to blame. Maybe if these haters would see the light and realize that this was the best offer Cudahy has had ever. But I know they can't stop spitting the same old song about the couple of bad things that WalMart had happen 20 years ago.
WalMart would have Cudahy thriving again in no time. They bring other businesses with them every where they start up. I dare you to try and find an area that hasn't grown when WalMart opened in the area. Good Luck!! I mean it. Your search will be hard, but fueled by your hate I think you will try for days and weeks. Maybe then the rest of us adults can have an educated conversation while they are busy.

I personally love Walmart. I live out of state now but we spend over $500 a month there on groceries, etc.

I guess BTA doesnt realize that Cudahy is on Lake Michicgan so its not land locked. You wouldnt say the same issues face Bayview or St Francis, yet Cudahy is situatied similiarly.
BTA - Jun 16, 2009 2:57 PM
Technically, no it is not land locked since the east side is the lake...however, there is virtually no property to develop. The 3rd ward is now a hip and cool place because of the renovation of old warehouse buildings and its proxmity (right next to) downtown Milwaukee.

We would love an IKEA, Macy's, and all the other upscale shops, but be realistic, they don't seem to be coming any time soon.
Our city think tanks can dream all they want, however, they need to become realistic. Is it just luck that Sonic is going to Oak Creek? Two Sendiks in Frankin? Again, I suppose luck.
Our elected officials have a non business friendly attitude. If you don't believe me, just get a local business owner that is not tied at the hip to the Cudahy Chamber of Kommerce to talk to you. It would be amazing if you LISTEN, what you would hear....

Exactly what local fair would you say is worth going to for a family besides CityLounge, SoupLaddle, and Sheridans? Let me think... graveyard records? cigar shop? laundry? one of the 15 corner taverns? maybe one of the 10 used car lots? hmmmm.... Give a list of the local stores you frequent and maybe that will help get the word out on these shops.
You list low crime. I guess you havent been aware of the continual garage robberies and drug issues in Cudahy.
Working together is a great idea, but the problem is there is not a correct plan of action installed by the City government currently. No multi-lateral discussions are open. There are places that have already figured out how to revigorate a city, yet those lessons arent being followed.

If you haven't driven down packard avenue in the last several months, their are more vacant store fronts than in 2007. Breakwater is the latest victum!
Walmart, like them or not, gave the city the best chance of building a retail complex with maybe an applebees, best buy, or other stores who gravitate to a major retail hub such as them. You can list stores until their are blue in the face, however, the question they ask of the city is.. Who is the anchor to bring us there? The park, while a vital asset, is NOT a retail anchor to bring in new business to the city.
The current elected officials have SHOT DOWN retail development on penn and layton and at the former ice port site. Do you think others percieve Cudahy as business friendly? Unfortunately, you need to get out there in the business world and find out that Cudahy currently does NOT have a business friendly reputation. If it did, people would be busting down the doors (like sonic and sendiks) to build here, not in Franklin nor Oak Creek nor Greenfield, where progressive Mayor's are attracting businesses.
This city does have alot of good things going for it, however, lacks leadership! Without that, not very much will change.

Those you listed are restaurants. What about local service or product businesses that litter Packard?
You seem to agree that local businesses need to be in place, yet you dont understand how to attract those businesses to the area. There isnt an upscale owner that wants to "try" a restaurant next to a tavern or used car lot. What about bringing sustainable businesses that bring family jobs to the area as well? Not just tourist or casual dinners?
Please have a bit more foresight than saying things were bad 50years ago so as long as they are bad now, that doesnt count.

Even if the Mayor does tear down the iceport in 09 as a reelection ploy, don't expect anything coming there soon. You don't see developers running all around do you? Name at least 2 new projects in Milwaukee County that have begun to build, since 2007? You will be hard pressed!
