CUDAHY POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE

FROM:   Sgt Chris Blunt

DATE:            6/6/09

SUBJECT:      Shots Fired/Barricaded Suspect

On 6/6/09, at approximately 4:09am, the Cudahy Police Department received multiple calls reporting a fight in the 5400 block of S. Nicholson Ave.  In addition, subsequent calls reported shots fired in that area.

Upon arrival, Cudahy officers encountered 5 subjects in the area and initially secured those subjects at gunpoint.  A 46 year old Cudahy woman and her 20 year old Milwaukee son reported a known subject fired multiple rounds at their vehicle, while they were seated within.  They further advised the suspect fled toward an apartment complex in the 2700 block of E Adams Ct.

Officers surrounded the apartment complex and attempted to persuade the suspect to come out, with negative results.  The Cudahy Police Department Tactical Unit responded to the scene to assist.

The apartment building occupied by the suspect was evacuated by officers.  The evacuees were escorted to a Milwaukee County Transit Bus and conveyed to a local school.  Officers entered all of the 10 buildings of the complex to alert residents of the incident and to encourage them to evacuate or remain in the building.

At approximately 10:05 am, the suspect, a 52 year old Cudahy man surrendered and was taken into custody by officers from the Cudahy Police Department Tactical Unit, without incident.

Officers from the Greendale, South Milwaukee, Oak Creek, St Francis, Wauwatosa, Shorewood, Franklin, Whitefish Bay, West Milwaukee Police Departments and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department assisted in this incident.

No one was injured and the investigation is on-going.
