The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

From Someone Else’s Eyes

Rant Rave

I received an email the other day and I will share it with all of you, minus the personal information from the sender.

Mr. Hollenbeck, maybe you could tone down your blog entries and make them shorter, softer and sweeter and then the newspaper would print your blog as “one of the best.”  I read every one of your blogs, no matter how long.  Just after diner, I look forward to getting on the computer and reading them.  You are forcing me to check more often though since you are posting just about every other day.  I don’t want to miss one.  I don’t agree with all of your views, but many.  You tell it like it is, and have a sense, a pulse on what is going on in Cudahy.  If you only would write something gentle, like going to the beach or out to diner, you know one of those feel good stories.  I am sure you will get printed!

My subject choices don’t lend themselves to being soft and warm nor do most of them allow for shortness.  People do want to know the truth; they just don’t want to hear it.  The truth sometimes is long, harsh, cold, or unwelcome.  When I signed up I made two promises, one I would not post on my blog about Wal-Mart while the public forum is running (it is no longer running) and two, I was going to pick some controversial subjects.  I do not want to take anything away from my fellow bloggers; I read all of what they post.  We all choose topics we have a passion for.  Whether it is political/ideological bickering or talking about their dog, you want more voices on the blogosphere, not less.

Just as someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure, political bickering can have a positive effect IF it exposes government misuse or a viewpoint unseen.  Talking about one’s dog may lead someone into trying a new dog food or exposing the dog or owner to a new idea.  What we don’t need is name calling and personal attacks.  We live in a world of bickering; just some of us choose to call it debating.  It appears to me, that once someone cannot beat you at the issues, that is when frustration turns us into name calling monsters.  Groundless character assignation is not necessary or earned!

I have written a very soft and warm from the heart post, which was “To Know Me” a poem about my life.  I do have more poems about my son, daughter, and wife coming up.  Some of these poems have already been published in a poetry book.  I also have the story of when my daughter was born coming up.

I feel, we in the South Shore area, have a good rounded gamete of topics and views.  Some people see me, an Ultra-Conservative in Cudahy, as a fish out of water; a place that is very blue-collar, liberal, Democratic people.  Many of my neighbors scoff at me when it is election time and I place my signs in my yard.  There are many more like me in Cudahy, they tend to be much lower key than myself.  I am not the type that thinks, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease,” because I know “The nail that sticks up gets hammered down.”  I just stay strong to my convections, and I have a loud, passionate voice.  Many of those same neighbors ask me to be the voice for them while dealing with the government.  Staying silent is wrong, we have freedom of speech use it.

I check my blog entries at least twice daily to see the amount of views and comments if any.  I cannot compare my blogs to my other fellow bloggers, so I look at my numbers to how much and the frequency of viewers.  My Metra & Cudahy Station was viewed 239 times in 10 hours with 2 others using RSS.  It was in my mind successful, because it did pull someone who was interested in debating the other side of the issue.  Obviously, it's a little one-sided.  That's the point, it is my blog.  In the future, I may ask a few people to give counterpoints and do a fair and balanced segment.  As a whole, I am disappointed in the lack of comments, in “What’s really important to you?”  Talk back” or “Snow Removal” (did have two people post in this one).  These are issues that should inspire you to write in.  Pothole Patrol” had been up for almost 2 hours and had 35 views 2 others using RSS and no comments.  So far, for our area, it looks like the bloggers are the ones commenting for everyone’s subjects.  This was your chance to have others hear you, which included the local government.  I know they just love reading my posts, whether they admit it or not.

I am not out to make friends or enemies, if that happens, then so be it.  I was not out to be selected as one of the three influential people in Cudahy in 2007, I was very honored it was bestowed upon me.  Would I like to be the Cudahy Citizen of the year for 2008 (not even sure if Cudahy does that), sure who would not want that, but that is not my objective.  I write about things important to me, while thinking they are important to you or make you stop and pause to think about them.  I write from my heart.  My accolades are that you, the readers, read my stuff and comment on them.  Good, bad, or in differ.  If the newspaper decides to print one of my blogs, that is good because more people will be exposed to my words.  I have plenty to say, as I am sure you have picked up on, I am very opinionated.  For now, I am writing for others to examine my opinions, perhaps on subjects that people don’t really give much thought to, conceivably another point of view to ponder about, sometimes on a controversial subject and even on a light-hearted note…it’s “The Way I See It”.
