The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

The time is ripe to redefine leadership for the world.  One must be authentic, uniquely yourself, the genuine article.  Authentic leaders know who they are.  They are “good in their own skin,” so good that they don’t need to impress or please others.  They not only inspire those around them, they bring people together around a shared purpose and a common set of values and motivate them to create value for everyone involved.  This new breed of leaders have a shift in caliber and character to them.  One must be, “Do as I say and do.”

 

Authentic leaders know the “True North” of their moral compass and are prepared to stay the course despite challenges and disappointments.  They do make mistakes, and acknowledgement of those mistakes empowers them to keep taking risks.  They make the hard decisions that have to be made.  Their decisions will be based on a calm assessment not a knee jerk reaction.  They care more about "WHAT" is being done than “Who" is doing something.

 

Five traits of authentic leaders:

 
  1. Pursuing their purpose with passion
  2. Practicing solid values
  3. Leading with their hearts as well as their heads
  4. Establishing connected relationships
  5. Demonstrating self-discipline
 

The only valid test of a leader is the ability to bring people together to achieve sustainable results over time.  There is such a thing as a one-minute leader and they are not a True Authentic Leader.  Real leadership takes years of development and hard work.  The challenge is to understand ourselves well enough to discover where we can use our leadership gifts.  We all have that spark of leadership in us.

 

To be effective leaders of people, they must first discover the purpose of their leadership.  If they don’t, they are at the mercy of their egos and narcissistic impulses.  To discover this, they must understand themselves and the passions that animates and drives their lives.

 

If leaders aren’t true to their values, then the trust is broken and is not easily regained.  They must have both passion and compassion.  They understand it’s more important to get it right, than be right.  The values are shaped by their personal beliefs and developed through introspection, consultation with others and years of experience.

 

Leading from the heart sounds soft, but one must be able to live with the tough choices involving pain and loss, how we deal with death is just as important as how we deal with life.  From a position of strength and success, not from the position of fear and failure.  They must resist Absolute power as absolute power corrupts absolutely.  They help the helpless and give power to the powerless.
