The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

Milwaukee Journal Wal-Mart blog

Wal-Mart

Someone sent this Milwaukee Journal blog that was in the paper.  Very good!!!

Here is the highlight

When running for mayor last winter, McCue said that Cudahy has an image problem and Wal-Mart would just make it worse.  He doesn't seem to have changed that view -- he told me he had no further comment on Wal-Mart but that his prior comments stood.  All right, he's made it clear: A Wal-Mart Supercenter is too declasse for the kind of commuter-rail suburb Cudahy wants to be.

Except for this: There are seven Wal-Mart Supercenters within 40 miles of Milwaukee, according to Wal-Mart's store finder.  Every one of them is in a ZIP code where the median household income is markedly higher than Cudahy's.

The precise figures, according to the 2000 Census (those are the latest numbers for which the Census has breakdowns by community for places under 65,000 people) are thus:

Mukwonago (53149):  $64,926

Germantown (53022): $60,099

Antioch, Ill. (60002):   $58,578

West Bend (53095):    $52,840

Burlington (53105):    $52,251

 Sturtevant (53177):     $52,056

 Lake Geneva (53147): $45,808

  Cudahy (53110):         $40,017

Particularly when it comes to supercenters, Wal-Mart isn't a marker of a town on the slide
