Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely young daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Once again, no reason to screw Franklin school taxpayers (but they will)

Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released the 2014-15 estimated general aid for each Wisconsin School District.  DPI is required to release the estimated school district general aid amounts by July 1.

Since no one else on FranklinNOW will tell you how the Franklin school district fared, then let me do it.

For 2014-25, the Franklin school district will receive $15,955,871in general aid from the state of WI that is currently run by those big old nasty mean cruel Republicans.

That would be a 3.8% increase from last year’s general aid. Franklin will receive an increase this year in general aid of $583,644.

Last year, Franklin received an increase in general aid from the state of $552,690. That was an increase from the previous year of 3.97%.

The folks that run the schools in Franklin once again have to work hard to hide their tears in the hallways. Could they possibly justify a huge property tax increase by playing the poverty game and portraying the state as Ebenezer Scrooge? Could they turn around and still propose and approve a big tax increase? Could they maintain a nearly 4% increase in state aid still isn’t enough?

Quiz time, Franklin residents. Given the newest figures from the DPI, please choose among the following:

#1

A) Franklin school district Business Manager Jim Milzer will abandon his Jesse James, Stick it to the Taxpayers philosophy and seriously consider the latest DPI figures before he proposes budget recommendations to Franklin Superintendent Steve Patz.

B) Whatever Franklin school district Business Manager Milzer proposes to Patz, Patz will seriously consider the latest DPI figures before he proposes a budget for consideration by the Franklin School Board.

C) Milzer will ignore the DPI figures and recommend a tax increase.

D) Milzer will suggest a tax freeze.

E) Patz will support a tax increase.

F) Patz will support a tax freeze.

G) The Franklin school administration will recommend a tax increase.

#2

A) No matter the recommendation from the Franklin school administration, the Franklin School Board will seriously consider the DPI figures and the effect on the budget.

B) The Franklin School Board will approve a tax increase.

C) The Franklin School Board will approve a tax freeze.

D) The Franklin School Board will approve a tax decrease

E) Are you nuts, Fischer? These questions are a joke. The Franklin school administration and the Franklin School Board don’t give a rat’s *** about the taxpayers.

F) Like blind sheep, Franklin residents will cave, bend over and take it, and then wonder in December when the tax bills arrive what the hell happened.

The correct answer to #1:

C, E, and G

The correct answer to #2:

B, E, and F.
