New Kid's View

Family lured Jerrianne and her husband to South Milwaukee in 2002 from Southern California where she worked as, first, a journalist, then, as a court information officer. She now stays busy with media-relations consulting, playing with her three grandchildren (part of the lure), writing, discovering her new environs, and hoping her garden will produce before the first fall frost.

Rotary Donation to Benefit Kids

Rotary Club of Mitchell Field, Pebble Beach, Inn at Spanish Bay, Peter May, First Tee, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Gary D'Amato,

I've posted before about the local Rotary Club's great golf raffle prize that includes a round of golf for four at Pebble Beach including two rooms for two nights at the Inn at Spanish Bay plus a $1000 travel allowance! Or you can choose the cash equivalent of $4500. Here's a Facebook post from Club president Pete May about how to donate old or no-longer-used golfing equipment to a cause that benefits young people. Here's Pete's post:

  • Hey golfer friends!
Do you have old golf equipment? Maybe you’ve bought new clubs or maybe you’re just angry enough at the old ones that you want them out of the house! Either way The Rotary Club of Mitchell Field has a solution! Why not donate old clubs, balls and shoes you don’t need to the children of Milwaukee through First Tee! First Tee is a not-for-profit determined to “impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.” It’s a very worthy organization and a potential tax deduction for you! (Deduction is based on the value of your gift as determined by First Tee).
Here’s the story. We’re holding the drawing to choose the winner of our Second Annual Rotary Club of Mitchell Field Golfer’s Dream Raffle (more about the raffle below) on Wednesday, September 18th, 6:00 pm at the Oak Creek Community Center on Howell Avenue. The drawing is open to the public. Our speaker will be Milwaukee Journal Sentinel golf writer Gary D'Amato. There will be a cash bar and a small silent auction. We’ll also be selling raffle tickets right up until the drawing.
Our raffle prize is a round of golf for four at Pebble Beach including two rooms for two nights at the Inn at Spanish Bay plus a $1000 travel allowance! Or you can choose the cash equivalent of $4500. The tickets are $25 each or five for $100 and your odds are very good. Sales are limited to 2000 tickets! For more info on the raffle click on this link:www.rcomf.org (or paste it into your browser).
So why not donate and get a kid interested in the great game of golf? You can drop the equipment off the night of the drawing, hear Gary D’Amato and maybe buy a raffle ticket before you go! Or you can call me, Peter May, President of the Rotary Club of Mitchell Field at 414 899-8098. Someone will return your call and make arrangements to pick it up or drop it off.
Please help by sharing this post!

    Thanks!
Peter May, President, Rotary Club of Mitchell Field

What a Game!

South Milwaukee High School, football, Greenfield, the Rockets, Ian Pribyl, Justin Oliden

I don't blog about South Milwaukee High School football, even though I go to a lot of the games. But tonight's game against Greenfield is an exception. I don't believe I've ever seen a game like it.

First off, even though the Rockets went into tonight's game undefeated, I didn't have high hopes that their record would hold, given that one of their best players, Ian Pribyl was out with an injury. And things didn't look too good when the Hustlin' Hawks scored on the second play of the game.
