I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.
Let me first congratulate thewinners from yesterday's elections. I do not envy the challenges that lie ahead for you. I sometimes wonder why I thought about getting involved.
I am sure that I am not the only person thankful that the election season is over. No more phone calls, nor more tv ads and no more radio ads. I read that close to $3.7 BILLION dollars is going to be spent on these midterm elections. (http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2010/02/midterm-elections-will-cost-at.html). Nothing About Us Without Us
I had the honor of attending the Third Annual Self-Determination Wisconsin Conference recently. The event was attended by over 350 people. From self advocates to parents. From care givers to educators. Everyone who attended the conference were there for one reason, to make sure that individuals with developmental disabilities have the tools they need to self direct their lives successfully.
This was a statement from a praticipant at a resent Policy Summit I attended. I was afforded the opportunity at attend the summit and meet with over 30 Groups who are focused on Disability Issues throughout the state to come up with a unified message for the new Administration coming into Madison in January. By no means was this every group.
While my primary focus has been on developmental disability issues, it was great to hear how other groups are working to ensure that their groups are also represented to develop this message.
The Fech Family would like to wish you and yours a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
For those who are traveling for this Holiday, please be safe.
