New Kid's View

Family lured Jerrianne and her husband to South Milwaukee in 2002 from Southern California where she worked as, first, a journalist, then, as a court information officer. She now stays busy with media-relations consulting, playing with her three grandchildren (part of the lure), writing, discovering her new environs, and hoping her garden will produce before the first fall frost.

    This year, all profits will go toward scholarships for girls hoping to attend "Girls Rock", a Milwaukee based music camp! Refreshments will be available and donations will be accepted at the door. Concerts are family friendly, so come one come all!

 Milwaukee Public Radio station WUWM's "Lake Effect" is airing my essay, "The Horror of Civil War Re-enactment," as part of its observance of the 150th anniversary of "The Gettysburg Address" on Tuesday, Nov. 19. It will be live-streamed during its 10 a.m. broadcast at http://wuwm.com/listen. It can also be heard on the radio at "Lake Effect's" regular air time of 10 a.m. at 89.7 FM. SMMS Robotics Team Competes Today

Rockets Robotics, First Lego League, Marquette High School. South Milwaukee Middle School

 SM Rockets Robotics First Lego League team is ready! Competition is today at Marquette High School.The team is seven South Milwaukee Middle School 6th & 7th graders. There were times I never thought we'd make it. One of the program's goals is "We have fun!" It took us a while to get to that point, but everybody hung in there and I truly believe we eventually achieved that goal. We are ready to do our best today -- and have fun!

Robotics Teams Do South Milwaukee Proud

First Lego League, Marquette High School, Believers, Blakewood Elementary School, Rockets Robotics, Parents Advisory Council

Last Sunday, two teams from South Milwaukee were among 23 to compete in the First Lego League robotics qualifying tournament at Marquette High School in Milwaukee.

One group from South Milwaukee, the "Believers," was a veteran, award-winning team that has competed in past years.
