Police seek charges against woman who spit at Romney rally

Town of Grand Chute Police Chief Greg Peterson said Tuesday that he is recommending a charge of disorderly conduct against an 83-year-old Appleton woman in connection with an incident last Friday in which the woman spit on another woman during a Mitt Romney rally.

The incident was captured on video.

Peterson said that, after interviewing witnesses, he decided to recommend to the Outagamie County district attorney's office that the woman be charged with disorderly conduct.

In the video, Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) is talking to Romney supporters when the woman interrupts asking, "Why are you against Planned Parenthood?"

The woman is then seen arguing with another woman and then spits on her. Darling said she told the woman she should leave the meeting.

The woman later was escorted out of the rally, and police were called.

The incident occurred at an event called "Wisconsin Women for Mitt."

Peterson said the district attorney's office would get the paperwork either later Tuesday or Wednesday.
