New Kid's View

Family lured Jerrianne and her husband to South Milwaukee in 2002 from Southern California where she worked as, first, a journalist, then, as a court information officer. She now stays busy with media-relations consulting, playing with her three grandchildren (part of the lure), writing, discovering her new environs, and hoping her garden will produce before the first fall frost.

South Milwaukee High, homecoming, TPing

South Milwaukee High students had their pre-homecoming celebration Thursday night. From the looks of things they had a great time. The evidence, as usual, was hanging from the trees. Yes, the TPing was quite a sight. The students are to be commended. They did a great job. This picture doesn't do it justice.

The kids showed not only creativity, they acted responsibly in two ways.

First, unlike some years back, they confined the canvas for their work pretty much to school property, rather than overreaching across the parkway and up the street to 15th -- and even onto 15th -- and down the parkway past the railroad overpass toward Chicago Avenue.

Second, also unlike a few years ago when the increasingly ragged toilet paper remnents survived rain, snow and wind for months and remained tangled in bare tree limbs and littered the parkway through the Christmas and New Year's holidays, yesterday afternoon, students were out pulling their celebration handiwork down and throwing it away.

It's great that the students could have a good time without messing up property others use and drive through.

And congratulations to the team on their hard-earned homecoming victory.
