So Backwards Barrett claims Walker and his people are cooking the books on the job numbers, but Backwards Barrett, what about the MPD crime numbers?
It looks like the crime numbers might have been cooked or at least fudged. Human error on 500 serious assaults were misclassified by department personnel as lesser offenses, come one please.
Gov. Walker joins call for independent audit of Milwaukee crime stats
MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker Thursday joined the list of those calling for an independent audit of the Milwaukee Police Department’s crime statistics.
That’s after the Journal Sentinel found that at least 500 serious assaults were misclassified by department personnel as lesser offenses. And as a result, the numbers showed that Milwaukee’s violent crime rate went down by over 1 percent last year – when it actually went up by 2 percent-plus.
Walker said the report raises questions Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s ability to lead. The Democrat Barrett is running in the June 5th recall election against the Republican governor – and Walker noted that Barrett has routinely touted Milwaukee’s falling crime rates.
The governor made his comments at a news conference in Milwaukee, when the city’s police association endorsed Walker in the recall contest.
Barrett told reporters earlier Thursday that if the numbers are wrong quote, “We will correct them.”
Police Chief Ed Flynn has blamed human and computer errors for the misclassifications of the assaults. Wednesday, state lawmakers and Milwaukee aldermen called on both state and city auditors to look into the matter.
