The Badgerland Striders Running Club will once again be hosting its annual South Shore Half-marathon on Saturday, April 7th. The race starts at 8:30 am with registration starting at 7 am. As always, the race starts at the South Shore Pavilion at 2900 S. Shore Drive ( South Shore Park in Bay View). Pre-registration is $10 for Striders members or $12 for non-members. Race-day registration is $20 for both members and non-membrs. In this race you get a pair of gloves instead of a t-shirt.
The stars of this race are our beautiful and priceless County Parks. This race runs almost entirely through five County Parks: South Shore, Bay View, Sheridan, Warnimont and Grant Parks. The half-way point is in Grant Park. After turning around at the half-way point, the participants run north along the same course back to the starting point in South Shore Park. The course runs through Bay View, St. Francis, Cudahy and South Milwaukee.
Someone once said that a half-marathon is the longest race where you can still go home and mow the grass afterward. This is a great distance where you can really focus on intermediate-distance running. I have run this race for eight of the past ten years and it is one of my all-time favorite courses.
