Why Not
I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.
Deafening Silence
"The relationships within corporations (Cudahy) improve when information is shared accurately and freely" This is from Leadership is an Art by Max DePree. This message was sent to me by a retiring co-worker and it is something that she wanted our group to continue.
Let me start by stating that anytime that I have contacted Mayor Day or my Alderman, I have always received a response.
The point that I am making though is that unless I have a specific question I have no idea what is going on in the City. Information is not being shared accurately and freely. There are a lot of rumors floating around, but nothing concrete. I would think that to stop the rumors, at some point the issue should be addressed at something more than a scheduled meeting.
As I have said before, I am not for the part time Mayor. I did share this with Mayor Day. I believe that you are limiting the field of candidates. As an example, I cannot take a part time Mayor position and continue in my current job. I could not make the time commitment. What if it comes down to working late for a job that supports my family, both with benefits and financially and making a Council Meeting? I have to do what is right for my family. That is not fair to ask somebody to do nor is it fair to the citizens of Cudahy.
As I have been going through my first two sessions of Partners in Policymaking, I have learned the importance of getting the message out. There are 30 of us in the class from across the State and we are all using our own knowledge, experiences and most importantly, contacts to work as advocates on disability issues, but we are sharing 1 unified message. I have used this blog to outline my view points on many different pieces of legislation that affect people with disabilities. I have tried to show how I have come about my reasoning. Whether you agree or disagree with my view point, it is out there for everybody to see. I am trying to share this information accurately and freely
I think that Cudahy lacks a true "cheerleader" at this point. I don't really see anybody out front on any issues that affect Cudahy. There are many things to be proud of in this community, but unless an individual/organization puts the information out there, it can be hard to find. I don't see how a part time Mayor and a full time Administrator can fill this role. To me, from what I heard at the one meeting I attended, albeit late, it sounds like the Administrator is going to be more of an operations manager, getting his hands dirty and getting things organized in the office. If this is the case, you can probably bring in a consultant for a heck of a lot less money.
If in fact we are just looking to see what other communicates are doing in regards to a City Administrator, why aren't we focused on what other communities are doing in regards to development? I believe that if there was active development going on, shovels in the ground, the part time Mayor may not be a big as an issue. But when you don't see anything, this gets moved to the forefront.
"The relationships within Cudahy will improve when information is shared accurately and freely.
