I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.
Although I filed the papers earlier this month, I would like to formally announce that I am running for the Cudahy School Board.
As I wrote earlier this week, I believe in diversity. When I looked at the our current School Board, I noticed that none of the current members have kids currently in the Cudahy schools. Next year, I will have 2 kids in the Middle School and 1 still at Lincoln. I believe that all of the Board members have done a good job of supporting the students, I just feel that maybe adding a parent could add a different perspective in these challenging times for education.
While I have been a parent who advocates for his son with a developmental disability, I have 2 other students in the schools as well. I may talk a lot about special education, I realize that my other kids need a quality and challenging education as well.
In researching the possibility of running, I talked to another parent on a School Board who also has a child with a developmental disability. She told me that while she has not been able to make the impact she had hoped for, she did say that what is good for her child with special needs has been good for all students. I also talked to my brother who is a Superintedent/Principal in the Grayslake school district, he just asked if I was nuts.
I have always had a good working relationship with the Administration as well as staff at Lincoln. I look forward to working with the Middle School as a parent. I had a good relationship with Mr Carolan while he was the Lincoln Principal.
I have been active in the Lincoln PTA, so I have listended to what parents are saying. Coaching in the CSFLBA and rec leagues, I listen to what parents are saying about their schools, so I have a bit of knowledge on each school.
For those who know me, I will always give you a straight answer, even if I know it is not the answer you may be looking for. I will be always be an advocate for the kids, it is not what I want, but what they think they need. I will talk to students from all grade levels and get their input.
I promise to keep people informed as to what is going on with the schools. I would continue to use this blog from time to time for those purposes.
Most importantly, I will always remember that I would be working with your public money. Decisions will always be with that principle in mind.
