Why Not

I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.

Public Input Thoughts

On Wednesday, I helped to facilitate Public Input in relation to the next State Plan for BPDD.  Here are some of the thoughts that came out of that meeting. As we travel the State, I am sure that we will find new issues for people that are not an issue in the Milwaukee area.

Sensitivity training for bus drivers, waiting for the elderly/disabled to take their seat before moving.

Public bus service between counties.

Accountability of private bus transit services. To often, the bus is either really late or does not show at all, even though a 2 week window in required to book the bus.

Showing the ability of individuals with a disability and how they can contribute in the work force.

Affordable public housing in safe neighborhoods and near a bus line.

Reeducation of the education system and working the material so individuals can better understand the concepts.

More acceptance of individuals with a disability.

Bringing the community back to the community. To often individuals with a disability need to travel 30 miles to attend an event, that could have easily been held closer to home.

Helping each other, either through a time share program or just plain old fashion volunteering.  We need to do a better job of looking out for each other.

While these ideas were focused on our State Plan for people with disabilities, I think that they also apply to everyday life for all people.
