A heart-themed fundraiser at J.E. Jones Elementary School last week raised nearly $300 for the people of earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
On Wednesday students were able to purchase heart-shaped treats and get hearts painted on their faces before and after school. On Thursday children were allowed to wear hats during the school day if they paid one dollar.
Staff members donated heart-shaped candies, cookies and other sweet treats for the fundraiser.
J.E. Jones raised a total of $292.69 for Haiti.
Appointments can be made starting today for registration and screening of Cudahy children eligible to attend four-year-old kindergarten next year.
Registration and screening will be held on two consecutive Fridays in March. Cudahy children who will be four years old on or before September 1, 2010 are eligible, but placement is not guaranteed.
All registrations and screenings will take place at J.E. Jones Elementary School (5845 S. Swift Avenue) on March 5 and March 12, 2010. Call J.E. Jones at 294-7150 to schedule an appointment.
Children must attend the registration to participate in the screening of learning skills. You will need to provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate, immunization information and proof of residency.
The School District of Cudahy also will conduct registration and screening for three-year-old children with suspected difficulties in learning, vision, hearing, walking/jumping, language/talking, behavior and basic skills. Children must be current residents of Cudahy and must be three years old by September 1, 2010. Please call J.E. Jones to schedule an appointment.
